28 days old and all is well with the little ones as they continue to grow bigger, stronger and braver.
As if to prove the point Sunday saw them do battle with the dreaded water snake whilst mum looked on.
On Tuesday, a young crow attempted to join them for lunch figuring that there was more than enough food to go round, Big mistake! Big! Huge! as one of the more feisty ducklings put paid to his plans as she lunged towards him and saw him off. Not sure who was more surprised, me or the crow.
And now for something different..........
Over the years we have had many different invaders in our grounds and buildings. There are many squirrels and rabbits here and we occasionally have them in classrooms, we have to rescue many birds that find their way in along with the occasional cat or dog. During the lockdown of 2021 we were ram raided when 200 sheep broke through a fence and spent the day on the sports field ( Photo/video below ). We've even had cattle but Wednesday this week brought a new challenge when we had a Bat flying around the atrium. Cue the Benny Hill music and the chase was on as we dashed around with fishing nets and lay in wait around corners trying to catch it.
Someone ( who will remain nameless ) had clearly been influenced by the Dracula films they had watched when younger and was convinced they would be destined to wander our corridors for ever more, caught in their very own "B" movie if it bit them. You will be pleased to hear that he was safely caught and released, and no one was bitten.
Sadly, there are no pictures as we were a little busy although there is a photo of a later visitor below.
