It is now 10 years since Daphne started to visit us to raise her babies and, during this time, we have witnessed many funny, heartwarming events and, sadly, a few heartbreaking ones too.

We have battled aerial predators and the occasional rat attracted by the food but, never in the preceding years have we been confronted with a heron.

Our unexpected visitor arrived a few days after we cleaned out the pond in expectation of Daphne appearing.

Fortunately, we haven't seen the heron since but remain on high alert just in case.
