Here we are at 35 days old and it's been another interesting week.

Early Sunday morning I arrived to serve breakfast and was devastated to see just mum and one baby stood in the middle of the quad. My mind was racing, trying to think what could have happened as they are now of a size that they should be safe from most predators.

As I'm talking to mum questioning what could have happened, I hear a rustling in the undergrowth and the other four came marching out.

I'm still not sure if they were having a lie in or winding me up but it was reminiscent of misplacing a toddler in the supermarket and being torn between cuddling them and throttling them when you find them 🙃 despite their best efforts, they, and I are still here.

So, we've clearly entered the petulant child stage of their development. Stomping around like Kevin the teenager, ignoring mum and turning their noses up at what was being offered for tea, preferring instead to forage in the puddle created by their water trays being cleaned out.

Only Daphne had the good manners to eat some tea which was good news for the young crow as he is still showing up to help clear the leftovers.

They are growing rapidly and will be the same size as mum in around 10 days.

In other news

You will remember from last week that, for the first time ever, we had a Bat in school. On Monday this week we received a report that there was a bird in one of the stairwells. Nope, no sign of it but with so many doors open it could have made its way anywhere.

Going room to room it's not long until I come across Miss W stood in a door way telling me she has a Bat in her classroom ( full marks to Miss W and her class for remaining calm so as not to stress it out ).

After a few minutes with Miss W at one end of the room and me at the other, it settled on a desk and Miss was able to cover it with a basket so I could remove him. Safely released outside.

Tuesday sees us being informed of an injured bird at the side of A block after it had flown into a window and seemed unable to get off the ground.

The little Starling was located and clearly concussed. Off to the vet for an assessment. Fortunately, there didn't appear to be anything more seriously wrong with her so she was observed for 24hrs before being released.

Thankfully, the rest of the week has been fairly quiet on the wildlife front but who knows what tomorrow will bring.
